He recently followed me on Twitter as Joel Johnson. He asked me to chat with him on Google Chat, and told me he’s a U.S. Marine currently serving in Syria. He wouldn’t give me a military email address, told me letter writing isn’t allowed, and can’t go on a computer to chat. I know it’s all lies because I have friends that have served in the Army and Marines. He also started asking for Steam gift cards, saying he needed them for food. Then he was declaring undying love for me within 24 hours, which is highly suspicious.
Just this morning he sent photos of this guy saying it’s him, and when I questioned why the name on the shirt was different he said his name is Joel Johnson Nickels. Please stay away from anyone using these photos.

Thee is guy posing as Shane but uding this on hangout and email admabass84@gmail.com and trying to send money

    1. Please come off Hangouts. All scammers and victims. Thanks for the information but please
Don't even start to talk to them.
Anyone that contacts and claims Military is fake.
They are never allowed to tell a stranger where they are deployed. Or where
they are going to be deployed.
ALL are criminals, thieves from West Africa using stolen pictures of Military personnel.

    1. I have been dealing with the exact same person and story. Within 3 days he was telling me he loved me and wanted to marry me. I’ve questioned why we can’t video chat and he always has an excuse. My father served in the military so I knew something wasn’t right.

    3. This guy did the same thing to me only when I questioned the name on his shirt being different he suddenly “confessed” that he’d been using Shane’s photos because he didn’t think I would accept him as he is. He’s now using another Marine’s photos under the name Joel Johnson, but the real guy is Latino.

  9. My friend has been talking to this Joel Johnson since November. It started out on Twitter DMs but he wanted to move to Google Chat. They’ve been talking a lot and he quickly confessed he loved her, wanted to marry her etc. He convinced her through some sob story about being a Marine in Syria that he needed Steam cards to get food, and in total she sent about £550 until she realised he was lying. He kept saying he would do video chats if she sent £100-150 as he had to book in to use a computer. Thankfully she never sent anything. Unfortunately she did send a few compromising photos of herself that could be used against her, and he’s now threatening to post them on Twitter and Facebook to her family and friends. He’s been reported to Twitter twice now and they’ve done nothing, so she was forced to deactivate both her Twitter and Facebook accounts and close down her Gmail account where he was sending the abuse. Is there anything that can be done to stop him? She’s absolutely terrified now.

    1. It sounds counter intuitive but block the scammers everywhere they can get to her. He can only blackmail if he can get to tell her about it and demand money.
He will be one of a scammer team in West Africa. Sadly because of the corruption in their countries they don't get caught. It is not just one, it is a team. Tell her to hold her nerve and it will pass but they are truly evil and horrible creatures. So hard to deal with as they are so obnoxious, a long way from the honey and baby in the romance part.
Hold her nerve.. give them only silence, she can control silence they can't.
